Welcome
Welcome to David Baird's Web site.
I was once a research chemist and latterly a specialist in IT systems for researchers, but now I am retired and ablt to devote myself to the delights of life at the edge of the West Pennine Moors close to Manchester. My long-term hobbies are hill-walking and choral singing, and I also have a great interest in making computers do useful things.
Here are links to some of the web sites which exemplify my interests or which I use frequently:
- I manage the web site for Oldham Choral Society, with whom I have sung for over 40 years.
- I have just taken over the Holcombe Village (Lancs) Web Site.
- I am proud to have been a governor for many years of the local secondary comprehensive school, Woodhey High School.
- For me, the best UK hillwalking site is hill-bagging.co.uk, which is an on-line version of the Database of British and Irish Hills. It provides searchable information on about 20000 hills, with maps and, via the logs of many users, very useful information about how to climb them.
- Some time ago I created my own web site based on the hills database above. It has not been updated for a long time so the information is incomplete and occasionally incorrect, but it offers some search features which hillbagging does not. Here is the link to the database.
